A note about the technology: This course is interactive and I’d like us to do as much as we can individually and collectively to replicate the live classroom setting. Since the course content revolves primarily around increasing our sense of connection with each other and with the world, I ask people to treat the session as they would a workshop space where everyone is seated in the room together. This means videos on so that we can see each other and have a more cohesive sense of togetherness.

COMMON QUESTIONS ..

  • how do I get good at empathy?

  • how do I say no?

  • does practicing NVC mean being nice all the time?

  • what if I want to punish someone?

  • when and how do I apologize?

  • how do I know if it’s really a need?

  • how do I handle my fear of conflict?

  • how do I get closure?

  • how can I manage my anger?

  • what if I don’t want to empathize?

  • what if the other person won’t respond?

These are just a few of the kinds of questions that people frequently ask. Each session will expand on a various aspect of NVC but the main objective will be to respond to what is most alive and pressing in people’s personal and collective lives so that we can deepen our capacity to respond from

To speak eloquently, directly and courageously when the stakes are high does not come naturally. It is a learned skill. And if you haven't learned it, which is close to guaranteed in a culture that doesn't teach it, you probably already know that when you need it most is precisely when it becomes painfully clear just how impoverished our culture is in this regard and that you have inherited this same poverty. And in a culture that prides itself on "progress" and "individualism", you can be sure that the stakes will be even higher when it comes to your relationships. The cost of alienation will likely be far greater than what your heart can bear.
